Partying in LLN: "Dirty" parties

We are sure you want to know about partying… Well, you’ve come to the right place!

There are many places to party in Louvain-la-Neuve, and almost every day! The UCL provides some rooms that student associations can rent to organize parties, but a few student associations also have their own spaces where they host their events.
Who organizes what, isn’t really important—you can go everywhere and party with everyone.
Parties often last until 3 a.m., although some end earlier, around 1 a.m.

As for the party spots, most of them are located in the upper part of the city, around “Place Galilée.”
There, you’ll find places like “Le Coq,” “La Casa,” “La Carolo,” “L’Agro” (organized by bioengineering students), “La MDS” (run by science students), and more. These spots often host parties Monday through Thursday.

Special shoutout to “Le Lundi de la Guitare”—an open stage/party held every Monday until 1 a.m., organized by another Kot-à-Projet.

Other popular places include “L’Adele” (run by law students) and “Le CESEC” (managed by economics students), located respectively on Rue Pierre Joseph Redouté and Rue du Buret in the “Les Bruyères” area. (Don’t worry—you’ll quickly get familiar with these place names since LLN isn’t that big 😉).

This list isn’t exhaustive, as there are plenty of other spots you’ll discover in no time.

Kot-à-Projets (student associations centered around specific projects, like Kot Erasmus, which focuses on welcoming international students 😊) also organize parties—so stay tuned!

In Belgium, Facebook and Instagram are still widely used for event information, so don’t forget to follow the pages/accounts of the places mentioned above to stay updated on themes (if there is one), times, and other details.

Here’s an important tip: these places can be DIRTY. So, don’t forget to wear old shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting messy. The smell might surprise you the first time (you’ll have to let us know what you think about it), but push through because these parties are so much fun.

More common parties

If dirty party aren’t your thing (which is perfectly valid and okay!), there are bars that turn into party spaces, like “Bidule” (on Rue Grand-Rue) and “Citizen Kane” (on Scavée du Biereau).  These are fantastic alternatives!

Note that parties at the Citizen Kane are more classy, with proper DJ’s, etc. They generally organize parties on Friday, we strongly recommend you to follow the “Pulse party” Instagram page to stay tuned !

For simply grabbing a drink, there are plenty of bars in Louvain-la-Neuve. Some great ones include “Beer Bar,” “Rabelais,” “Brasse Temps,” and “Dude.” These are perfect places to enjoy many (or not so many) Belgian beers !

Safety during a party
  • If there is anything wrong going on during a party, there normally always is a Yellow Shirt (literally someone wearing a (very) yellow t-shirt). These people are your go-to reference for help and also distribute water.

  • If you’re wondering where to find free condoms in LLN—especially after a wild party night—here’s what you need to know to keep things safe and responsible. While the places mentioned in "dirty" parties often provide free condoms at the bar—as well as earplugs and water (just ask for them)—you can find plenty more at Univers Santé (Place Galilée, 6). They also have other useful items like recipe books, cups, cup holders, and more.

  • Another very chill and open-minded place to talk about sex and ask for condoms is Kap Hot (Rue des Blancs Chevaux, 16), a Kot-à-Projet dedicated to opening up the dialogue about sexuality. They inform and educate students about the risks of various STIs, the different methods of contraception, and raise awareness about consent.

  • While partying and enjoying student life, things don’t always go as planned. Accidents happen, and that’s okay.If you ever find yourself in a situation where additional protection is needed, the morning-after pill is a safe and effective solution. You can get it, among other things, at Planning Familial (Cours des Trois Fontaines, 31) (https://www.planninglln.be/). It’s a safe space where anyone can find answers and information about their emotional, relational, and sexual life (pregnancy tests, scheduling appointments, questions related to sexual risk-taking, condoms, the morning-after pill and emergency contraception, as well as referrals to various services: legal, psychological, social, and medical). You can also purchase the morning-after pill at any pharmacy at a low price.

  • Securitas: Securitas are qualified security agents you will see patrolling around the university every weekday. They are here to ensure that student events and parties remain safe ( making sure there are no drugs, fights, or other issues). They are not part of the police, but they are trustworthy people you can rely on. If you ever have a problem or need assistance, feel free to talk to them, they are there to help you.
